Nex Benedict

A nonbinary student was murdered in an Oklahoma school. For months leading up to the attack, their superintendent had repeated radical talking points and anti-LGBTQ+ hate both publically and on social media. Advocates say his rhetoric is directly responsible for the violence now happening in his schools. Let's get to 25,000! Sign now with a click Nex Benedict was laid to rest quietly this week after a brutal attack in Owasso High School. Everyone should be aware of the death of this 16 year old kid, who was a great student with a bright future. According to news reports, they were beaten in their school bathroom by three other high schoolers, where they slammed their head into the floor repeatedly.  School officials failed to call an ambulance for this student, despite the fact that they could not walk on their own. They were taken to the hospital by their guardian and released, only to be rushed back the next day. Tragically,  they died from their injuries.  Those that harmed this child, including the students who attacked them, school officials who refused to offer this child aid, and Ryan Walters, whose dangerous rhetoric led to their death, should be held accountable.  Ryan Walters has spent his time as Oklahoma School Superintendent building a career for himself off the backs of teachers and students, spreading the idea that Oklahoma schools are filled with depraved individuals that groom kids into some mangled woke mold. He has spoken against the LGBTQIA+ community at every opportunity. He has invited far right mouthpieces to take part in the decision making for our schools, leading to religious indoctrination and threats of bombs and other acts of violence directed at Oklahoma schools.  Now, one of our kids has died due to the extreme, politically motivated speech and propganda spread in speeches, videos produced with Oklahoma taxpayer money, and videos filmed in his car.  This should have never happened. Nex deserved to live their life. Oklahomans who believe in freedom should allow everyone else to have the same degree of freedom, rather than prescribing the way that others live.  Ryan Walters needs to be held accountable for his actions that have led to violence against our students and the death of one of our children.  Edit: In the wake of this tragedy, Ryan Walters has chosen to ignore it in favor of promoting his obsession with so-called pornography.
