Hugo Pinto is a father, husband, master's degree graduate, volunteer, dog lover, and member of the Washington Heights community in Manhattan. Hugo and his wife, Karah Rempe, are also the owners and operators of Dutch Baby, a popular restaurant and bakery in the Heights. After waiting 6 years for his permanent visa application to be processed, Hugo was granted a consulate interview in Honduras. Despite intense preparation and assurances that the case was extremely solid, Hugo's case was unexpectedly placed into a middle ground called "Additional Processing." We don't have information on what is causing the delay, and authorities have stated that questions about his case will not be answered for at least 180 days. Hugo is unable to return to the US while we await further processing, and we are left with no explanations and no recourse. Hugo wishes nothing more than to return to his wife and sons, Oscar and Leo, but he is not allowed to return to the US. The challenge Hugo is facing is not just his alone. His absence is being felt by his family, his business, and the larger community.
Please sign this petition and share it widely. Our goal is to bring Hugo home while also shining a light on the current policies that tear families apart; families who are following the path to legal citizenship in the US. It is time for us to raise our voice and ask the relevant authorities to expedite Hugo Pinto's permanent visa application process. This petition urges those with power to expedite Hugo Pinto's permanent visa application process. Please, lend your support and sign this petition to bring Hugo home.
