California wildfires

Mary — As deadly wildfires continue to devastate California, Julie is urging the state government to introduce legislation that would prohibit the sale, private possession, and use of fireworks statewide, saying: "This is not about robbing people of their fun; it is about ensuring the safety, stability, and protection of our beloved state and its residents." This is a deeply personal issue to all residents of the state of California whom have lost or witnessed the loss of residential property, schools, places of worship, businesses, human life, livestock and pets in the devastating wildfires across California.

This is not a simple request made on a whim - it is based on empirical evidence. As per CAL FIRE statistics, prior to 2025, reveal that roughly 7% of all California wildfires in the last decade have been incited by fireworks. Our state already suffers from an extreme risk of wildfires – adding fireworks to the equation is like adding fuel to an already raging fire.

This petition calls for legislation that makes it unlawful for any individual or group to purchase, possess, or detonate any form of fireworks or other incendiary devices in the state of California. This legislation should only make exceptions for large-scale public events at City, County and State events, stadiums, theme parks and other venues that the state considers eligible to apply. All applicants must submit proper application(s), apply for and receive required permits, and provide proof of necessary insurance. Permits will be provided only if and when the applicant's request has been rigorously reviewed and has completed this process.

This is not about robbing people of their fun; it is about ensuring the safety, stability, and protection of our beloved state and its residents, and potentially having some positive effect in gaining more favorable consideration from property fire insurers going forward.

Many more policies and laws must be enacted to address the many contributors of wildfires in the state, however, this is an issue upon which I believe the majority of California residents can likely agree upon.

Please sign this petition to make California a safer place by prohibiting the sale, private possession and use of fireworks statewide.
