Hello everyone,

Imagine enjoying a meal with loved ones, never expecting it could be your last. Now imagine that tragedy striking—not because of carelessness on your part, but because of the alleged negligence by those entrusted to prepare your food safely.

On December 5th, 2024, our beloved Dominique "Domo" Brown tragically lost her life, allegedly due to a severe allergic reaction at an event + food establishment in Los Angeles. Allegedly, despite informing staff of her life-threatening allergy, she was served a dish containing the allergen. Allegedly, the establishment lacked critical life-saving tools like epinephrine autoinjectors (EpiPens) and trained staff to respond effectively.

Domo's death was preventable. Her story is not unique, and it's time for change.

We are calling for legislation requiring:

  1. Mandatory epinephrine autoinjectors at all establishments that serve food, including restaurants and event venues.
  2. Staff training on recognizing and treating allergic reactions.
  3. Real-time ingredient transparency, including clear communication protocols between chefs, servers, and patrons to ensure all ingredients in a dish are disclosed, particularly when recipes or preparation methods change.

Recent tragedies underscore the urgency:

  • Alison Pickering, a 23-year-old student, died after unknowingly consuming a dish altered to include peanuts without warning.
  • Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan passed away after eating a disclosed allergen at a restaurant located at Disney Springs, despite multiple warnings about her food allergy, highlighting failures in staff training and ingredient management.

The Facts:

  • 34% of allergy sufferers (1 in 3 people) have experienced reactions while dining out, even after informing staff.
  • Over 25% of reactions occur despite allergens being listed on menus, often due to cross-contamination or miscommunication.

A Life-Saving Comparison:
Buildings have fire extinguishers and alarms to protect people. Why don't food establishments have the equivalent for life-threatening allergic reactions? Just as we mandate fire safety, we must require food allergy safety to save lives.

Dominique was simply magical- a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, unfairly taken at 34. All of us, including her Disney, Grambling, and Millikan family, want justice for Domo. But we also want change. Let her story—and the stories of so many others—spur action. By signing this petition, you help create a world where no family suffers this preventable heartbreak.

Together, we can turn tragedy into change.

Thank you for your support,
Marcus
