My son died because herd immunity failed

Hi Mary,

My 8-year-old son was fully vaccinated. He did everything right. But he still died — just 16 hours after showing symptoms of a vaccine-preventable disease called Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib). Doctors told us his death was inevitable the moment he got sick. Why? Because a parent chose not to vaccinate their child against this deadly illness.

Sign the petition to eliminate religious exemptions for school vaccinations and protect all children from preventable disease.

My name is Ashlee, and I am the mother of a child I'll never get to hug again. Losing him shattered my world — and knowing that his death may have been preventable has made it even harder. If more children around him had been vaccinated, he might still be here. But our public schools are allowing religious exemptions that put every student at risk, including the most vulnerable.

Vaccines save lives. And public schools, which are government institutions, should reflect the principle of church and state separation. Religious exemptions often represent personal beliefs, not formal doctrine, and they should not override public safety. That's why I'm calling for two urgent changes: end all religious exemptions for vaccines in public schools, and require Hib vaccinations before a child can enter kindergarten.

CDC data shows that diseases like Hib and measles are reemerging in communities where vaccination rates drop, even slightly. If we don't act, more children will suffer. More parents will grieve. And more lives will be lost to diseases we know how to prevent.

Please sign and share this petition today. The next child's life may depend on it.

Thanks for your support,
Ashlee Dahlberg
