To: Jeff Bezos and the Executive Team at Amazon.com, Inc.
We, the undersigned consumers, are writing to strongly urge Amazon to proceed with plans to display any applicable tariff costs directly on the product page for every item sold on your platform, as was recently reported.
We are aware of the White House's immediate and negative reaction to this potential move, characterizing the display of factual cost information as a "hostile act."
We firmly believe that providing consumers with a clear understanding of the factors influencing the price of goods is not hostile, but rather a fundamental aspect of transparent and ethical commerce.
Facts are not hostile acts.
Displaying tariff costs directly on the product page will:
- Increase Transparency: Empower consumers with a complete understanding of the final cost of their purchases, including any government-imposed tariffs.
- Promote Informed Decisions: Allow shoppers to factor in all cost components when comparing products and making purchasing choices.
- Uphold Consumer Rights: Ensure consumers have access to all relevant information that affects the price they pay.
- Foster Trust: Build greater trust between consumers and Amazon by providing clear and upfront pricing information, regardless of political pressure.
We respectfully request that Jeff Bezos and the executive team at Amazon stand firm in their consideration of this transparent practice and not bend the knee to political pressure aimed at obscuring factual pricing information.
Consumers have a right to know the true cost of the goods they purchase and the factors that affect that total price.
We believe that prioritizing transparency and consumer rights is the correct and ethical path forward.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned Consumers
