Hi Mike,
One of the biggest myths in investing is that successful investors are constantly chasing new opportunities.
They’re not.
In fact, the best investors in the world tend to do the opposite.
They narrow their focus.
Warren Buffett has a specific investment philosophy and applies it consistently. Elon Musk focuses on technological innovation and energy. Apple focuses on hardware. Microsoft focused on software. They all became wealthy not because they did everything, but because they became experts at something specific.
That’s the difference between amateur investors and professional investors.
Amateurs are scattered.
Professionals are focused.
Amateurs make a brand-new decision every time an opportunity shows up.
Professionals create a clear investment framework and then use it repeatedly.
That’s why one of the most important questions you can ask yourself right now is this:
What are my investment criteria?
Not:
- “What’s hot right now?”
- “What’s everyone else buying?”
- “What investment has the best return?”
Because there is no universally “best” investment.
There is only the investment that best fits:
- your knowledge,
- your strategy,
- your risk tolerance,
- your tax position,
- and your long-term goals.
One investor may thrive in value-add multifamily housing.
Another may succeed in energy.
Another in business acquisitions.
Another in technology.
The point is not to copy someone else’s strategy.
The point is to develop your own.
And here’s the good news:
Once you define your criteria clearly enough, investing gets dramatically easier.
You stop chasing every shiny object.
You stop wasting time on bad deals.
You stop reacting emotionally.
And your confidence increases because you know exactly what you’re looking for.
That’s when wealth creation becomes intentional instead of accidental.
At this year’s WealthAbility® Entrepreneur & Investor Conference, we’ll spend a lot of time helping entrepreneurs and investors think strategically about building wealth, not just making money.
Because wealth is built through systems, structure, and clarity.
Not randomness.
The entrepreneurs and investors who win over the long term aren’t necessarily the smartest people in the room.
They’re the ones with the clearest strategy.
