The City of Solvang is considering approving a massive 105,000 square foot apartment complex on Alamo Pintado and Old Mission Road that is not consistent with the existing zoning or general plan. As tall as the Hollywood sign and twice as long and located across from the Nielsen Shopping Center and New Frontiers, this proposed development, consisting of 109 units, threatens to disrupt our peaceful community. As residents, we have serious concerns about the potential increase in traffic congestion, strain on local resources such as water supply and waste management systems, as well as the impact on our small-town charm that attracts tourists from all over the world. According to data from the U.S Census Bureau (2019), Solvang has a population of just under 6,000 people; this large-scale development could significantly alter our town's character. Nowhere else in Solvang does a development like this exist. We urge the city officials to listen to their constituents' voices who are opposed to this project. Please sign this petition if you believe that decisions about future developments should prioritize preserving our community's unique character over unchecked growth.
