The scale of humanitarian devastation and horror in Gaza is hard to imagine. The shock waves of grief, horror, and despair are felt across the world.
Each time a healthcare worker in Gaza leave their loved ones, they hug and kiss them knowing they might not see them ever again. Or worse, they might see them on a stretcher, dying or dead.
Think of the surgeon who had to perform an amputation on his own child, without aneasthetic, only to watch him die on the operating table.
Think of the healthcare workers who shelter their patients; who work without rest. They grieve for those who could not be saved, and pray with those who are in their final moments.
Think of the horror they endure.
Think of these doctors and nurses, refusing to leave their hospitals and patients behind, with airstrikes overhead, to pay with their lives for their loyalty to their patients.
These heroic healthcare workers do this out the purest and most honourable of all of life's services - to preserve the sanctity of life.
As of January 1st 2024, 374 healthcare workers have been killed, 150 healthcare workers detained or abducted and 102 ambulances shelled/bombed.
