He has since been released, but petition starter Lee, along with members of the film community, are calling for safety and protections for artists like Hamdan, saying: "Such treatment of an internationally acclaimed filmmaker gravely undermines artistic freedom, human rights, and freedom of speech—core values vital to democratic societies."
