As a deeply concerned individuals who cherishes the beauty and significance of our national parks, the abrupt dismissal of park rangers deeply aggrieves us. The national parks are part of what makes this country so great. They are beautiful places to retreat to and appreciate the natural world's majesty. The park rangers play a vital role in maintaining this beauty; they are a critical part of what makes the parks so exceptional.
Recent actions to terminate the services of numerous National Park Rangers have elicited widespread concern. These rangers enforce laws and regulations in the national parks to maintain their integrity, protect the wildlife, educate the public, and ensure the best visitor experience. Shockingly, their vital services have been abruptly terminated, leaving our national parks and visitors at risk.
Park rangers are our parks' stewards and shepherds, safeguarding delicate ecosystems, preserving history, and serving more than 327 million park visitors annually according to the National Park Service data for 2019. Their dedication contributes significantly to the $41.7 billion economic output generated by national park tourism, as per a 2019 report by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Given the importance of these rangers' work, their dismissal appears to neglect the immense value that they bring to our national parks and the country at large. Their critical role in preserving our national heritage and stimulating the economy cannot be overstated.
We call upon the U.S. government to reconsider their decision and reinstate the dismissed National Park Rangers. The sustainability of our parks, their ecological integrity, and continued visitor enjoyment and education are jeopardized by their absence.
