Hi Mary,
When the floodwaters came, there was no siren. No loud alert. Just chaos.
Last week, families along the Guadalupe River were caught off guard by sudden, catastrophic flooding. Homes were destroyed. Roads were swallowed. At Camp Mystic, over 70 campers and staff had to be rescued from rising waters in the middle of the night.
There was no outdoor siren system to warn them. No time to prepare. No way to know what was coming.
Add your name if you believe families deserve a warning before it's too late.
My name is Nicole, and I live in Kerr County. I'm also a mom. For me, this flood hit terrifyingly close to home - I almost sent my daughters to Camp Mystic this year. When I saw what happened to those campers, my stomach dropped. I couldn't stop thinking: What if my girls had been there?
Our families deserve better. We need a siren system that can alert people, loudly and clearly, when severe weather or floods are coming. Cell phones don't always work. Electricity goes out. But sirens cut through the noise and give people the precious time they need to evacuate, seek shelter, and survive.
We're calling on local officials to make this a top priority, apply for available federal funding, and involve residents in the planning process. This is a commonsense, life-saving step that other communities have taken. Why not us?
More floods will come. If we don't act now, we risk more lives, more rescues, more heartbreak.
Add your name now to help make sure Kerr County is prepared before the next storm hits.
Thanks for your support,
Nicole
