Lab grown meat in schools

Just last week, U.S. Senators Jon Tester and Mike Rounds have introduced the School Lunch Integrity Act of 2024, a bipartisan bill seeking to ban lab-grown meat in schools nationwide through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP).

Right now, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) decides what kind of meals schools can serve through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). But they haven't given any instructions about using lab-grown meat in these programs.

This can change with your help. Will you sign today?

Did you know lab-grown meat is approved for sale in the US–which means it could be coming to your child's school?

Lab-grown meat is an experimental food. It is made in factory "bioreactors." Companies take animal cells, put them in a bioreactor, and then add a chemical growth serum with hormones and other growth factors. Eventually, there's enough cellular mass to make a patty or meatball.

There are several reasons parents are concerned about lab-grown meat:

Lab-grown meat is not something that has ever been in the human diet, and yet its advocates are deceptively calling it "clean meat" and acting like it's a better substitute for natural meat from a farm.

Our children are not science experiments! Sign this petition to keep lab-grown meat out of schools.
