Save Our Schools: Join the Fight Against Closure in Hawaiian Gardens!

Residents and concerned community members in Hawaiian Gardens, CA, are uniting against the proposed closure of schools by the ABC school district. They argue that shutting down these educational institutions will have detrimental effects on students, families, and the community at large. The closure of longstanding elementary schools in Hawaiian Gardens would impact students' education and mental health, as well as disrupt the lives of parents and staff. In a city predominantly made up of Hispanic/Latino residents, where some parents rely on walking to school, longer commutes due to closures could pose significant challenges.

Act now to stop the closure of schools in Hawaiian Gardens! Share the petition widely to amplify the community's call for change.

We, the residents and concerned community members of Hawaiian Gardens, hereby petition against the proposed closure of schools by the ABC school district. We believe that closing schools in our city will have detrimental effects on our students, families, and community as a whole.

All the elementary schools in Hawaiian Gardens have been open for many many years. By closing the schools it will affect our students' level of education, mental health. It will also affect our parents and our staff who have been working with our schools for many years. By closing the schools in Hawaiian Gardens  it will be harder on the parents to commute to schools. Keep In mind our city is mainly Hispanic/ Latinos. Some parents don't have the opportunity to own a car. Those parents walk to school. Let's keep in mind that students tend to learn better in a smaller classroom setting.

We oppose the closure of schools in our city for the following reasons: Closing schools will disrupt the education of students who rely on these institutions for learning and support. Students will face longer commutes to alternative schools, impacting their ability to participate in extracurricular activities and receive additional academic support. Some parents don't have a car so commuting will be harder. Consolidating students into fewer schools may lead to overcrowding and larger class sizes, negatively affecting the quality of education. Schools serve as vital community resources, providing access to facilities for events, meetings, and educational programs. Closing schools will result in the loss of these resources.

Instead of closing schools, we propose exploring alternative solutions that address the district's concerns while preserving educational opportunities for our students. These solutions may include: Implementing cost-saving measures within existing schools to address budget constraints. Exploring redistricting plans to balance student populations across schools more equitably. Engaging with the community to gather input and explore creative solutions that meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Not only will they be closing Furgeson they will also be closing Hawaiian Elementary. Now the city of Hawaiian gardens will no longer have any elementary. The district will make it harder for students to receive proper education. This means they will definitely have to travel to further out schools.

We call upon the district to immediately halt any further action towards closing schools in our city. Engage with the community to explore alternative solutions and gather input from stakeholders. Please Consider the impact of school closures on students, families, and the community before making any final decisions.

Please share this petition with your friends, family, and neighbors in Hawaiian Gardens to gather at least 1,000 signatures or as many as possible. Together, we can make our voices heard.
